Wolves reportedly interested in Lille’s Renato Sanches

Sanches’ resurgence

Renato Sanches has endured a rather up and down career trajectory to date.

The now 23-year-old was snapped up by German giants Bayern Munich in 2016 after impressing in his home nation of Portugal with Benfica.

However, after struggling for form and minutes in Bavaria, Sanches was then loaned out to then Premier League side Swansea City for the 2017/18 campaign.

And to say Sanches’ stint with the Welsh outfit was underwhelming would be putting it lightly.

The midfielder notched just 12 league outings for Swansea before returning to Bayern.

Sanchez then endured another rough campaign in Germany with regular minutes one again hard to come by.

And in the summer of 2019, Bayern eventually agreed to part ways with the former Benfica standout, selling Sanches to Lille for a fee believed to be around £18m.

Sanches has since experienced something of a rejuvenation in France, garnering 19 appearances and three goals in the Covid-19 hit 2019/20 Ligue 1 campaign.

Sanches has also featured eight times for Lille in the league this term, with Christophe Galtier’s side second in the division having lost just once so far this season.

Wolves eyeing Sanches

Now, such impressive form has seemingly earned Sanches interest from England.

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, Sanches has ‘entered the crosshairs’ of Wolves.

Wolves, of course, have a very Portuguese-heavy squad, which may entice Sanches into returning to England despite his previous trouble there.

And also, with Joao Moutinho now 34 years of age, perhaps Nuno Santo and co. are on the lookout for fresh legs in the middle of the park.

The report from Calciomercato doesn’t mention a potential fee for Sanches, who has just under three years left on his current deal.
