Speculation surrounding Manchester United youngster James Garner’s future has been rampant in the media over the last 48 hours, on the back of the midfielder’s latest moment of individual brilliance.
Red Devils youth product Garner has of course taken centre stage in the Championship chatter of late.
This comes with the 20-year-old continuing to light up England’s 2nd-tier with Nottingham Forest.
Garner made the move to the City Ground during the January window, after falling out of favour under new Watford boss Vladimir Ivic.
And to say that the Hornets’ loss since proved Forest’s gain would be putting it lightly.
Garner has gone on to play a starring role for Chris Hughton’s men, dominating from his deep-lying midfield berth with equal grit and guile.
All told, the youngster notched starts in 18 of Forest’s last 20 Championship outings of the campaign.
It was his showings on the back of the most recent international break, though, which saw fans begin to truly sit up and take notice of Garner’s talents.
The 20-year-old, as well as displaying his trademark abilities both on and off the ball, has begun to add a consistent goalscoring threat to his game, as showcased by the following strike versus QPR last month:

Such impressive form, though, in turn, has seen speculation begin to mount surrounding Garner’s future beyond the summer.
The English youth international saw his loan deal with Forest essentially expire at the weekend, on the back of the club’s final Championship outing of the campaign. Manchester United’s plans, meanwhile, have long remained unclear.
As outlined above, though, over the last 48 hours, several updates on the situation have been forthcoming.
The Mirror, for example, assure that another loan move away from Old Trafford is to be expected ahead of next season. Significantly, it is also suggested that a foreign club could prove the midfielder’s eventual landing spot.
Sources elsewhere, however, have pointed towards Garner remaining in England, albeit with a lower-tier Premier League club.
As per the reliable John Percy of the Telegraph, meanwhile, Nottingham Forest remain in the hunt to lure the United talent back to the City Ground in 2021/22.

Whatever, in the end, comes to fruition, one thing looks certain – Garner will not be handed the chance to impress as part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first-team setup at Old Trafford, for another year at least.
