Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho backs Man United to win trophies ‘sooner or later’

Man United vs Tottenham

Sunday’s most high-profile Premier League clash is set to get underway later this afternoon.

The tie will see Manchester United welcome Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham to Old Trafford.

These outfits are, of course, rivals because of their desire to compete for European places in the league.

But with Mourinho, an ex-United manager, now in the Spurs dugout, there is a bit of extra spice to the tie.

However, Mourinho is yet to beat the Red Devils whilst Tottenham boss, losing one and drawing one last term.

Mourinho praises United

Mourinho would leave Man United in somewhat bitter circumstances with his brand of football not exactly a fan favourite, despite being their most successful boss since Sir Alex Ferguson.

The veteran manager, though he is unlikely to admit it, probably isn’t overly fond of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the man that took his job in Manchester.

Despite this, Mourinho has actually been praising Man United lately.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s game, the Spurs boss stated United are a team that improve every year whilst also backing them to win a trophy sooner rather than later:

“It is a team that is improving year after year.

“The younger players are now older, they have more experience now. The players they have bought are players of quality.

“Many of my players, important players for me in my time at United, they are not any more important.

“They have changed their team. Players that worked with me, some of them are not even now selected or they are on the bench so that is a great evolution in the team.

“They have this ambition and this responsibility of winning titles which they haven’t done for quite a long time. The last one was the Europa League so they have this motivation, this potential and they are a very good side.

“I think they will [win trophies], sooner or later they will. It’s the direction where they are going.”
