Timo Werner outlines his Chelsea ambitions

Werner joins Chelsea

One of Chelsea’s marquee signings this summer was, of course, Timo Werner.

The German hitman had a simply sensational 2019/20 campaign with RB Leipzig.

Across 45 outings in all competitions, Werner chipped in with a staggering 34 goals and 13 assists.

So, when the news broke that Chelsea had secured the 24-year-old’s services for just £45m, said deal was obviously viewed as quite a coup.

Werner eyeing titles

Werner then spent several months training with the Londoners before being handed his competitive debut earlier this week.

Frank Lampard and co. kicked off their 2020/21 Premier League campaign with a 3-1 drubbing of Brighton.

And though Werner did not get himself on the scoresheet, he was still one of the Blues’ brighter sparks on the evening, winning a penalty in the first half, which Jorginho converted to fire Chelsea into the lead:

Now, after securing his first win as a Blue, Werner has been discussing his ambitions for his Stamford Bridge stint.

Speaking in a press conference on Wednesday, the hitman stated that he has come to Chelsea to win titles and as many games as he can:

“I have come here to win titles and as many games as I can.

“Chelsea is a big club, a club that always wants to win, and I’m a player who always wants to win every game.

“It’s clear we want to win titles. Now we have a very strong team, and a young team that can develop and go through a period of a long time where we can stay together because we are young. That’s a good way and that’s what I want to reach here.”

Werner also discussed the lure of coming to play in the Premier League:

“I also wanted to come to the Premier League because it’s the world’s best league, and I wanted to have the feeling to play here for such a big club like Chelsea.”
