Thierry Henry favourite to become next Bournemouth manager over former teammate

Bournemouth close to next manager appointment

Thierry Henry, the Arsenal legend and one of the greatest players to ever grace the Premier League, is, according to the Mirror, Bournemouth’s first choice to become their next manager.

Bournemouth parted ways with Jason Tindall two weeks ago and have been searching for his replacement ever since and are keen to speak with Henry.

Whist his playing career drew universal praise, the same cannot be said for his managerial career so far. After working with Roberto Martinez at Belgium, he took over at his former club Monaco in 2018, but his first taste of management didn’t last long. He was in charge from October until January 2019 and left with a record of 4 wins, 5 draws and 11 defeats in 20 games in charge, with the club in 19th place.

He took the job at CF Montreal in the MLS in November 2019 when he signed a two year deal and took the club to the play offs in his first season but they lost in the first round.

If successful it will be his first taste of management in the country where he established himself as one of the greatest players of his generation.

Other contenders include familiar faces

Patrick Vieira

Henry may be the favourite for the role, but other names linked include former Invincible teammate Patrick Vieira, John Terry and ex-Huddersfield boss David Wagner.

Vieira was dismissed from his role at French club Nice in December 2020 after a run of 5 straight losses and elimination from the Europa League. He was appointed manager in June 2018 after a three year stint in charge of New York City FC, where he oversaw finishes of 17th, 4th and 2nd.

David Wagner is no stranger to the Championship having taken Huddersfield Town up to the Premier League, via the play offs, for the 2017 -18 season and kept them up. He lost his job in January 2019 with the club 8 points adrift at the bottom of the table. He then took over at Schalke but was sacked in September 2020.

John Terry is still working under Dean Smith at Aston Villa but is linked to most vacancies these days. It is surely only a matter of time before he makes the move to number one.
