The latest on Liverpool’s Thiago pursuit as German sources hint deal will be struck

An update on the links between Liverpool and Bayern Munich star Thiago Alcantara has been forthcoming online this evening.

Recent weeks have seen Spanish midfielder Thiago hotly tipped as a potential arrival on Merseyside.

The former Barcelona man has been plying his trade at the Allianz Arena for 7 seasons now.

Thiago has gone on to cement himself as one of the star midfielders in the Bundesliga during his time on the books of Bayern, with the 29-year-old’s touch, vision and passing ability all of the highest quality.

The 37-time capped international has also secured German top-flight titles in each of his seasons with the Bavarians, along with the FIFA Club World Cup in 2013.

Despite his long-standing success in Munich, though, the 2019/20 campaign is expected to mark Thiago’s final one in Bayern’s colours.

Speaking last month, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, CEO at the Allianz, confirmed that his side’s midfield conductor had expressed the desire to move on:

‘He’s a great guy on and off the pitch. We negotiated with him and met all of his wishes, but Thiago Alcantara wants to leave.’

‘It looks like he may want to do something new at the end of his career. We don’t want to lose a player for free next year. I say that very clearly.’

Of the clubs to have been tipped as a potential landing spot for Thiago this summer, meanwhile, Premier League champions Liverpool have been, by some distance, the most persistently linked.

Despite having only recently secured their first league title in 30 years, the Reds, who have already added left-back Kostas Tsimikas this summer, are expected to seek out further reinforcements to Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

And Thiago, by all accounts, fits the bill of the kind of player being targeted by the transfer chiefs at Anfield.

‘It will happen’

As such, with the 2019/20 campaign now behind us, and Thiago a European champion following Bayern Munich’s Champions League triumph, updates on the Spaniard’s Allianz Arena exit are expected to arrive thick and fast over the weeks to come.

And, as outlined above, one such update has this evening been forthcoming.

The news comes courtesy of the reliable Christian Falk of German outlet SportBild.

Speaking on ‘The Beautiful Game Podcast’, Falk was drawn on the situation surrounding Thiago at present.

And the German transfer expert went on to reveal his opinion that, as things stand, all signs point towards the former Barcelona man sealing a move to Anfield before the close of the summer transfer window:

Christian Falk says that it’s likely that Thiago will be a #LFC player by the close of the window🔴🚨

“It’s TRUE that Thiago will be a #LFC player by the end of the window but I don’t give #LFC the money. I think it will happen”
