‘Terrible headache’: Chelsea’s Thiago Silva reveals impact Premier League style is having on him

Silva impressing

Thiago Silva joined Chelsea over the summer on a free transfer after his PSG contract had expired.

And whilst the big-money additions of Kai Havertz and Timo Werner largely grabbed the headlines over recent months, a case could certainly be made that Silva was as important a signing, if not more so, than the Germans.

The reason for this being that the Blues, under Frank Lampard, had previously been pretty frail at the back.

Since Silva has come in, though, that has completely changed.

Yes, he did make a mistake on his Premier League debut when Chelsea shipped three vs West Brom.

But since then, Silva has featured six times across all competitions for the Londoners, in which they have conceded just one goal.

Silva suffering from headache

Obviously, Silva can’t take all the credit, with the arrivals of Ben Chilwell and Edouard Mendy also key to Chelsea’s recent defensive solidity.

But it does seem to be Silva’s presence which has affected Chelsea’s backline the most this term.

However, though Silva’s displays have been excellent of late, the stopper does look to be feeling the impact of the all-action style of the Premier League.

Speaking recently, Silva confirmed that he has had a terrible headache following Chelsea’s last two games due to the constant aerial duels and high-paced style of play:

“After my last two games, I’ve had a terrible headache because there are non-stop aerial duels and a very high pace of play.”
