Spurs woes mount as Son injury confirmed

Tottenham held by Newcastle

Tottenham played host to Steve Bruce’s Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon.

Spurs headed into the tie on he back of some solid form, picking up three wins from three in their latest clashes across all competitions.

Newcastle, on the other hand, were hoping to bounce back from the 3-0 drubbing they were dealt by Brighton last weekend.

The Magpies, however, had to do so without star man Allan-Saint Maximin.

And after 45 minutes of action at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium, it was quite clear the Magpies were struggling without the Frenchman.

Tottenham had completely dominated the tie and, in truth, should have been well clear by the break.

The Lilywhites would, however, only head in at half-time one goal to the good, after Lucas poked home a Harry Kane pass across the box.

The second half did see Spurs dip a bit, but they still should have added at least one more goal at some stage.

The north Londoners failed to find a second, though, and were left to rue their missed chances in second-half injury-time after Eric Dier was adjudged to have handled the ball in his own box.

Callum Wilson then stepped up to convert the ensuing spot-kick, rescuing his side a point.

Mourinho confirms Son is injured

Not only were Spurs robbed of three points by the ludicrous handball rule now in place, but they were also dealt another blow on Sunday.

Said blow comes in the form of an injury to one of Tottenham’s star men.

Heung-Min Son was withdrawn at half-time vs the Magpies, a decision which could have simply been viewed as Mourinho rotating due to Spurs having three games in the next week.

However, speaking in his post-match presser, Mourinho would confirm that the South Korean did in fact suffer a hamstring injury and could be out for a while:

“It’s an injury. We’ll have him out for a while. It’s his hamstring.”
