Season over

Ralph Hussenthal has confirmed that his Spanish midfield enforcer Oriol Romeu is set to miss the rest of the season after fracturing his ankle in the midweek 3-0 defeat to Leeds and he will require surgery.

Romeu will be a miss for Southampton. The former Barcelona and Chelsea midfielder has been in fine form this season and has formed a solid partnership with James Ward-Prowse in the heart of their midfield.

The manager also confirmed that Takumi Minamino is also set to miss Monday’s trip to Everton with a hamstring injury suffered in the Elland Road defeat.

Speaking further on Minamino Hasenhuttl said he shouldn’t be out for too long.

“Taki has a slight hamstring problem but can maybe come back next week as it’s not a big injury.”

“We rested him from the beginning (at Leeds) because we knew three games in a week would be too much for him having not played much. but then it was very slippery and after his first movement he struggled with his hamstring.”

He also went on to confirm that Ibra Diallo, Kyle Walker-Peters, Theo Walcott, Obafemi and Smallbone are also all out.
