Saka scores crucial away goal for Arsenal and spares Aubameyang’s blushes.

All to play for next week

Arsenal had enough chances to leave Rome with a victory of Benfica, but their 19 year old wonderkid Bukayo Saka’s equaliser should provide them with confidence to proceed to the next round.

Arsenal feel behind in the tie when Emile Smith-Rowe handled the ball in box and conceded a penalty, which Pizzi put away after a little skip.

However the lead only lasted two minutes as Bukayo Saka continued his fine season, as he converted Cedric Soares low cross from close range. The goal was sent to VAR, but the verdict came back in favour of the Gunners.

Mikel Arteta sent out the same team as their 4-2 win over Leeds at the weekend, the first time Arsenal have named an unchanged side since 2018, hoping for a repeat performance.

His side had more than enough chances to win the tie but were let down by Pierre- Emerick Aubameyang’s finishing.

Wasteful Aubameyang

The Gabon international took to Twitter to admit he should have done better tonight. He was unable to carry his fine form on from the weekend, when he scored a hattrick.

Aubameyang missed a golden opportunity to give Arsenal the lead their pressure warranted when he somehow missed from six yards after Hector Bellerin teed him up.

His wasteful evening continued when he fired wide with only Leite to beat and added to his poor evening in front of goal when he got his feet tangled up when in front of goal.

He was replaced after 77 minutes, sparing him any more agony, and he will be hoping he is less wasteful in the return leg.
