Riyad Mahrez returned to Man City training on Tuesday/ Aymeric Laporte expected back this week

An update concerning a pair of Manchester City stars has emerged on Wednesday.

Wolves vs Man City

The Citizens, due to their European exploits at the back end of 2019/20, did not kick off their Premier League campaign last weekend like the majority of other sides.

Instead, Man City, along with their neighbours and rivals Manchester United, were handed an extended break.

The Manchester powerhouse are now set to get their 2020/21 season underway in the coming days though.

Pep Guardiola and co. will travel to Wolves this coming Monday for their first clash of the campaign.

Said tie will no doubt prove a stern test for the Sky Blues. Wolves have a solid record against the ‘big six’ in the Premier League and were in fine form last weekend when they dispatched Sheffield United with ease.

Laporte & Mahrez updates

As a result, Guardiola will no doubt be keen to call upon his strongest possible squad for the trip to Molineux.

However, two players involvement against Nuno Santo’s outfit was cast into doubt earlier this month.

Said duo comes in the form of Aymeric Laporte, who is City’s star defender, and Riyad Mahrez.

Man City confirmed on September 7th that both players had tested positive for Covid-19.

Thankfully, neither was displaying symptoms at the time. But they still had to undergo a period of self-isolation which, of course, meant they were unable to train with City.

Luckily, though, both players do look set to be offered some decent training time before the Wolves clash.

As per the Manchester Evening News, Mahrez would return to training with the Sky Blues on Tuesday – giving him nearly a weeks’ worth of proper training before the game on Monday.

And whilst Laporte currently hasn’t returned to training yet, the MEN do state that the Frenchman is expected back at some point this week.
