Real Madrid caught between Paul Pogba and Eduardo Camavinga

Pogba’s dream

Paul Pogba was again dropped to the bench by ole Gunnar Solskjaer for the 3-1 win at Everton. Whilst the Frenchman was brought on, the continual questions surrounding the 27-year-old’s future persist.

Speaking during the previous international break, Pogba spoke of his dream to play for Real Madrid. “Of course, every footballer would love to play for Real Madrid and would dream about that. It’s a dream of mine, so why not one day?”

Pogba did reiterate his commitment to Manchester United also, “But I’m at Manchester United and I love my club. I play for Manchester United, I want to perform well for them and do everything to get them back to where they deserve to be.”

Spanish media outlet AS have reported that Real could acquire Pogba’s services for as little as €60 million. Also stating that Zinedine Zidane has always dreamt of bringing Pogba to Los Blancos. With Toni Kroos now 30 and Luka Modric 35, Real will be in the market for the next ‘Galactico’ midfielder in the summers to come.

Pogba’s current deal was extended by a year to 2022 earlier this season therefore protecting the value of the player.

Zidane’s choice

However, Pogba faces competition to achieve his supposed dream from Rennes Eduardo Camavinga. The 17-year-old has lit up Ligue 1 and already scored for the senior French national side.

AS report that a host of clubs including Juventus and PSG are also admirers of the midfielder. Currently out with an injury, Camavinga did not feature against Chelsea in the Champions League group stage.

The choice Real Madrid face is tough. The fees for both Pogba and Camavinga would be to the levels of previous ‘Galactico’ midfielders. However, the age makes the choice trickier. With Pogba, Madrid would be buying a player in his prime with his best years beginning with his arrival. Camavinga however has a lot of development still to achieve.

Whilst a risk, the ceiling for Camavinga is expected to be high, maybe higher than that of Pogba’s. The decision will fall to Zidane and Florentino Perez as to who gets the nod but Real can expect strong competition for the youngster.
