Ralph Hasenhuttl claims Man United celebrated win over Southampton like they had won the Premier League

Man United fight back

Sunday’s early Premier League tie saw Manchester United face a trip to St Mary’s.

The Red Devils headed into the tie on the back of a three-game winning run across all competitions.

United had also been much better away from home this term, meaning they likely fancied their chances against the Saints.

However, some questionable defending on the part of Man United, combined with the brilliance of James Ward-Prowse, saw the visitors 2-0 down at the break.

But in the second 45, with Edinson Cavani brought on, United’s fortunes changed and they were able to complete a spectacular turnaround.

Cavani’s first key involvement saw him set up Bruno Fernandes on the hour mark.

The Uruguayan then levelled the scoring 74 minutes in before his injury-time header eventually saw Man United walk away with a 3-2 win:

The result saw Man United move up to 8th in the table with a top-four spot now in sight if they win their game in hand.

Following the tie, Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl shed some light on how United reacted to their eventual 3-2.

The Austrian, speaking post-match, claimed that Solskjaer’s side were celebrating like they had won the Premier League:

“You can hear them (Man Utd) celebrating in their dressing room. You know what you have done today and how tough an opponent you have been because they were celebrating like they had won the Premier League.”
