Pep Guardiola on Eric Garcia departing Man City before the end of transfer window

Guardiola on Garcia

Spanish defender Garcia joined Manchester City’s youth ranks from Barcelona back in 2017.

And, at the back end of 2019/20 in particular, the 19-year-old began to cement himself as a regular in City’s backline.

Garcia isn’t the most physically imposing central defender, but his intelligence and ability on the ball more than make up for that.

The youngster was also forming a particularly promising partnership with Aymeric Laporte.

Man City, though, look set to be forced into parting ways with the promising youngster in the near future, with Pep Guardiola having confirmed last month that Garcia won’t be renewing his contract, which is set to run out next year.

Barcelona, Garcia’s former club, have been the outfit most heavily linked with a move for the promising stopper over recent months. It was even claimed recently that the Blaugrana were set to bid around €15m for the stopper.

However, with just a few days remaining of the current window, Garcia is still a City player with a move to the Camp Nou not seemingly imminent.

And when asked if he expected Garcia to leave before the close of the window on Monday, Guardiola had this to say recently:

“I don’t know. I cannot answer this question so I don’t know. Today he’s our player, on Monday finishes the transfer window so I don’t know.

“I don’t know exactly what is going to happen. I know he wants to live there, I know Barcelona wants him but I think there’s no deal between the clubs. This is what I know right now, so what is going to finish I don’t know.”

Leeds vs Man City

Man City’s next clash pits them against Leeds United on Saturday afternoon.

Garcia has not been afforded a starting berth, though, with new signing Ruben Dias instead partnering Laporte.

And Dias will most certainly have to be at his best today to keep this free-flowing Leeds outfit quiet.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side have already scored eight goals in their opening three league games this season.
