The news that Arsenal fans across the globe have been waiting for has finally arrived late on Monday night.
Partey secured
Speculation linking Atletico Madrid star Thomas Partey with a move to the Emirates of course proved one of the talking points of the transfer window.
Following another superb campaign, during which the 27-year-old again proved himself to be one of the finest midfielders in La Liga, Partey was, almost on a daily basis, tipped as a potential addition to Mikel Arteta’s squad.
The Arsenal boss is known to be a fan of the Ghanaian’s talents, with Partey exactly the type of upgrade which the capital giants’ midfield has so long been crying out for.
As such, it no doubt came as music to the ears of the Arsenal faithful when word began to do the rounds online earlier today that a deadline day deal was very much on the cards.
Partey’s Atleti contract was known to possess a €50 million release clause, meaning the Gunners, in theory, needed only stump up the cash, to leave Diego Simeone and co. helpless.
And, as confirmed online this evening, this is precisely the route that the transfer chiefs at the Emirates opted to take.
In a post across their social media platforms a short time ago, Atletico confirmed that their star midfielder’s release clause had been activated:
.@Arsenal pay Thomas Partey’s buyout clause at LaLiga headquarters. The player has unilaterally terminated his contract with our club.

Arsenal, themselves, meanwhile, quickly followed suit, with an announcement of their own.

Welcome to the Partey! 🥳
