Official: Henrikh Mkhitaryan departs Arsenal for Roma/Gabriel ‘has signed’ for Gunners

Premier League giants Arsenal have this evening confirmed that out-of-favour midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan has joined AS Roma on a free transfer.

Permanent Olimpico switch

Mkhitaryan, 31, spent last season on loan in Serie A with Roma.

On the back of a largely hit-and-miss stint in north London following his arrival in 2018, the gifted Armenian made the move to the Italian capital last summer, in a bid to rediscover his brilliant best.

And this, for the most part, is what Mkhitaryan went on to do.

Though his campaign was somewhat hampered by fitness issues, when on the pitch, ‘Mkhi’ proved one of Roma’s star performers.

Across 22 Serie A appearances (16 starts), the former Borussia Dortmund man racked up a none-too-shabby 9 goals and 5 assists.

As such, word forthcoming in the media of late, suggesting that Roma were keen to make their on-loan star’s arrival permanent, came as little surprise.

And, as outlined above, the Giallorossi’s wish has this evening been granted.

In a post across the club’s social media platforms a short time ago, Arsenal confirmed that Mkhitaryan has made the move to the Stadio Olimpico on a permanent basis.

The Gunners will not receive a transfer fee as part of the deal, though, having come to an agreement to terminate the remaining year on the Armenian’s contract:

Thank you, @HenrikhMkh

And good luck with @ASRomaEN 👊

Gabriel imminent

In other Arsenal-related transfer news this evening, meanwhile, the club’s first high-profile summer addition now looks imminent.

As per the generally reliable Mohamed Bouhafsi of French outlet RMC Sport, central defender Gabriel Magalhaes, long linked with the north Londoners, has in fact already put pen-to-paper on a deal with Mikel Arteta’s men:

Gabriel has signed for Arsenal – just waiting for the announcement, according to @mohamedbouhafsi.
