Official: Chelsea sign Kai Havertz/Fee expected to be lower than previously reported

Premier League giants Chelsea have this evening announced the signing of Kai Havertz from German outfit Bayer Leverkusen.

Havertz arrives

Recent weeks have of course seen ongoings at Stamford Bridge take centre stage across the media.

Whilst other clubs rein in their spending amid the financial difficulties brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic, Roman Abramovich and co. have taken full advantage.

Before the summer transfer window had even officially opened, the Blues had already clinched the signings of both Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner.

This was followed by a staggering influx last week, when all of Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr followed suit in making the move to southwest London.

And, as outlined above, this evening, the latest piece in Frank Lampard’s increasingly potent Chelsea puzzle has been forthcoming.

On the back of months of rampant speculation, the Londoners have finally clinched the signing of Bayer Leverkusen sensation Kai Havertz.

In a pair of posts across the club’s social media platforms a short time ago, Chelsea first teased the imminent arrival of the 21-year-old, before following up with an official announcement:

Havertz has put pen-to-paper on a 5-year deal at Stamford Bridge.

Figures revealed

Interestingly, official confirmation of the latest high-profile addition to Chelsea’s squad comes just hours after an update on the potential fee which the Blues were set to part with to seal his signature was forthcoming online.

For weeks now, the widespread claim was that Havertz’s price-tag sat at €100 million.

As per reports from a number of reliable sources this afternoon, however, the exact figure, including bonuses, agreed on by Chelsea and Bayer Leverkusen, is in fact around €20 million lower.

Havertz is therefore thought to have set the Premier League giants back a fee similar to what was paid for Kepa Arrizabalaga:

Havertz fee is only €80m with add-ons. I make it exactly equal to the fee Chelsea paid for Kepa Arrizabalaga. A joint-record fee subject to changes in the exchange rates between EU-UK. https://t.co/GPio1gyWa4
