Newcastle United have reportedly had a bid for Norwich’s Jamal Lewis accepted

Several updates from England over the weekend suggest Newcastle are edging closer to signing a new left-back this summer.

Newcastle have Lewis bid accepted

The left-back spot was something of a problem are for the Magpies last term.

Jetro Willems, on loan from Eintracht Frankfurt, was Newcastle’s main left-back in the first half of 2019/20.

But after the Dutchman sustained a season-ending injury, Newcastle were forced to bring in Danny Rose on loan that same month to provide some much-needed cover.

Both players have since returned to their parent clubs, though, with Steve Bruce and co. once again seemingly in the market for a left-back.

And it appears as though the North East outfit have a few names in mind, though one target appears to be much closer to joining than the other.

That man is Norwich’s Jamal Lewis, who, according to Paul Joyce of The Times, Newcastle have had a £13.5m bid accepted for:

Liverpool are understood to have had a £10m offer for Lewis turned down earlier this summer, with the Reds instead opting to bring in Kostas Tsimikas as left-back cover.

Newcastle linked with Rogerio

Should Newcastle fail to bring in Lewis, though, it appears they have at least one back-up option waiting in the wings.

Said player is Rogerio, a 22-year-old Brazilian who is currently honing his craft with Serie A outfit, Sassuolo.

As per Sky Italy, Newcastle are in negotiations to sign the left-back this summer.

A fee of around £12.5m is believed to be being discussed for the defender.
