Newcastle head into the tie with a pretty poor record in the competition. In fact, the North East outfit haven’t made it past the 5th round since all the way back in the 1975/76 season.

They should, however, have little issue seeing of Morecambe on Wednesday.

Bruce on Saint-Maximin

Ahead of the tie, Steve Bruce held his latest press conference on Tuesday.

During the presser, Bruce would provide an update on Allan Saint-Maximin.

The Frenchman has been a key figure at Newcastle for some time now, but was forced off inside the first half of the club’s 3-0 loss to Brighton on Sunday.

But whilst the winger is expected to miss out on Wednesday, Bruce confirmed there is a chance Saint-Maximin could return in time for Newcastle’s trip to Tottenham this weekend:

“Saint-Maximin has had a scan on his ankle and we don’t think it’s that bad. He won’t make tomorrow night but has a chance for Sunday.

“We were worried about Jamal’s eye and it’s completely closed but thankfully there’s no lasting damage to it.”
