Mikel Arteta on plans to introduce Thomas Partey to Arsenal’s starting XI

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has provided an insight into plans to hand Thomas Partey a more prominent role in his side moving forward.

Thomas eased in

Ghanaian midfielder Partey was of course a deadline day arrival at the Emirates last week.

The 27-year-old’s move to north London had been long anticipated, with the Arsenal faithful having no doubt been desperate to catch a glimpse of Partey in the club’s colours in their return to action following the international break.

Arteta’s men made the trip to the Etihad for a Premier League showdown with Manchester City on Saturday evening.

A solitary goal eventually proved the difference between the sides, as Raheem Sterling’s first-half strike made sure of all 3 points for the hosts.

Gunners fans, meanwhile, were treated to Partey’s debut, albeit for just a 10-minute cameo, as the away side went in search of an all-important equaliser.

‘We will see…’

As such, on the back of his side’s disappointing defeat, Mikel Arteta was inevitably drawn on Partey’s minor involvement in Manchester.

More specifically, the question of when Arsenal’s fans can expect to see their latest addition being utilised from the off was raised, though Arteta was keen to keep his cards close to his chest regarding the subject.

The Gunners boss started out by explaining:

‘We will see how quickly we can make it with him.’

Arteta was also keen to highlight just how little time Partey has actually been afforded to integrate into his side’s ranks, pleading for patience as the former Atletico Madrid man adapts to his new surroundings and tactical demands:

‘I think we have to respect that process and that timing for him because he only trained for a day really and there’s a lot of new information and different game models for him to understand, and we have to respect that.’

‘But I think when he came on he looked good.’
