Mikel Arteta has reportedly told Sokratis he has no future at Arsenal

An update regarding the future of Sokratis at Arsenal has recently emerged online in England.

Sokratis’ Arsenal stint

Arsenal would secure Sokratis’ services in the summer of 2018.

The Gunners signed the centre-half from German outfit Borussia Dortmund for a fee of around £14m.

Sokratis has since gone on to feature 68 times across all competitions for Arsenal, in which he has scored six and assisted two.

And despite being 32, the Greek was still a regular feature during the early stages of the current campaign, starting Arsenal’s first 11 Premier League ties of the season.

Sokratis to leave Arsenal?

However, since Mikel Arteta took the reins at the Emirates, Sokratis has really fallen down the pecking order.

The Spaniard, to his credit, has really tightened up what was a previously very poor Arsenal backline.

Arteta has partly done this by switching to a back-five, which you would have assumed would include Sokratis.

However, even with Arteta playing an extra defender and all of Calum Chambers, Shkodran Mustafi and Pablo Mari currently sidelined, Sokratis has hardly featured under Arteta.

In fact, the former Dortmund man’s last league outing came back in March and he didn’t even start at centre-back, instead lining out at right-back vs West Ham.

Now, as mentioned above, a report regarding the defender’s future at the Emirates has recently emerged.

And it, unsurprisingly, doesn’t look good for the defender who has less than a year left on his current deal.

According to the Mirror, citing football.london, Arteta has told Sokratis that he no longer has a future at Arsenal.

However, it is also claimed that Sokratis has no plans to move on in the summer and is still determined to change his Arteta’s impression.
