Mesut Ozil’s agent rules out Arsenal exit for midfielder this summer

Mesut Ozil’s agent, Erkut Sogut, has recently been discussing his client’s future.

Ozil frozen out

Since being handed his huge contract in January of 2018, Mesut Ozil has been pretty average.

The German has struggled to hold down a regular starting spot with the ability that he once showcased on a regular basis for the likes of Real Madrid and Germany a distant memory.

Instead, the now 31-year-old has fallen out of favour under both Unai Emery and now Mikel Arteta.

Ozil was actually handed a fair bit of playing time by the Spaniard when he first took the reins at the Emirates.

But since the campaign restarted in June, Ozil has failed to make a single appearance, and even with the increased matchday squad size and five subs rule, the World Cup winner has failed to garner a place on the bench in the Gunners’ last seven Premier League outings.

Ozil staying put

Arteta himself has also been fairly short about the whole situation.

When asked about Ozil, which he is most weeks, the usually chatty manager becomes rather blunt, recently stating that he has nothing to say.

So, with Ozil seemingly not part of Arteta’s plans going forward and with a very hefty wage under his belt, Arsenal will probably be keen to move the midfielder on this summer.

However, as mentioned above, Ozil’s agent has recently been discussing his client’s future. And it doesn’t sound too great from a Gunners perspective.

Erkut Sogut stated he doesn’t believe there will be a change for Ozil until the summer of 2021, which is when his current contract expires, instead insisting his client will remain at Arsenal:

“I do not think there will be a change in the case of Mesut Ozil until the summer of 2021.

“He has a contract. There is no change. He will remain in Arsenal.”
