Manchester United reportedly interested in Portuguese centre-back David Carmo

Man United’s recruitment

Manchester United endured something of a mixed 2020 summer transfer window.

Donny van de Beek was the first name through the door at Old Trafford, and will likely go on to prove a useful asset despite his limited minutes to date.

Alex Telles is almost certainly an upgrade on United’s current left-backs, whilst Edinson Cavani is no doubt a better back-up centre-forward than Odion Ighalo, who is set to leave the club in January.

Facundo Pellistri and Amad Diallo are also extremely talented young prospects, who could develop into major contributors for the Red Devils down the line.

However, despite, in the end, having done some decent business, Man United’s transfer window could easily still be looked upon as a failure.

This comes with the club having not managed to secure a deal for Jadon Sancho, who was known to represent a key target of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

United also failed to strengthen at centre-back, an area in which they have been lacking quality for some time.

Man United interested in Carmo

However, it does seem as though those in a position of power at Old Trafford are well aware of their need to strengthen at the back.

It was reported last month that signing a central-defender is now viewed as the priority at Man United for the 2021 summer transfer window.

Said report also claimed RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano was a possible target for United.

Now though, another stopper is being linked with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

According to ESPN, David Carmo is attracting interest from Premier League clubs, one of which is Manchester United.

The 21-year-old has limited first-team experience, notching just 27 appearances for Braga’s senior side.

However, he is a left-footed centre back, an area in which United have been somewhat lacking for a while.

The report from ESPN doesn’t mention a potential transfer fee. But given Carmo’s age and the fact he is contracted to Braga until 2025, he is unlikely to be too cheap.

It’s also worth noting that ESPN claim United moving for any defender is likely to be based on at least one centre-back leaving Old Trafford.
