Reports on Monday morning hint that Manchester United have taken a big step forward in their pursuit of Donny van de Beek.
Van de Beek, now 23, has been a part of the Ajax set up since all the way back in 2008 when he joined their youth ranks.
The attack-minded midfielder has since gone on to become just one of countless top-quality talents to emerge in the Dutch capital.
The Dutchman has been particularly impressive over the last two campaigns.
Van de Beek, of course, played a key role in that 2018/19 Ajax side which won many a heart in the Champions League, knocking out Real Madrid and Juventus on the way to an eventual semi-final defeat at the hands of Tottenham.
And though some of the big names from that season, such as Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt have since departed the Johan Cruijff ArenA, van de Beek would stay put this past season – scoring 10 and assisting 11 in 37 outings as Ajax secured a second consecutive league title.

Man United to sign van de Beek
However, the nine-time capped international’s stint at Ajax does look to be nearing its conclusion.
Ajax chief executive Edwin van der Sar would confirm back in May that van de Beek was amongst the names the club would allow to leave this summer.
Both Real Madrid and Manchester United were tipped as potentially interested parties at the time.
Now though, it appears to be the former of those to outfits who have maintained their interest in the Dutchman.
Reports over the weekend concerning a potential switch to Old Trafford began to mount with it claimed the Red Devils have been in contact with the midfielder’s agents.
However, it was also added that Ajax had yet to receive an official bid.
On Monday, however, things long to have taken a step forward.
As per a report from the Telegraph:
Manchester United have agreed to sign Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek for 44million euros (£39.3million).
Said bid is believed to have been made on Sunday as United aim to ensure other clubs do not try and signing the Ajax standout.
Personal terms are also reportedly agreed with van de Beek expected to undergo a medical this week before penning a five-year deal.
