Manchester-based duo Phil Foden & Mason Greenwood reportedly back in contention for England

England return to action

England are set to return to action in less than two weeks’ time.

First up, Gareth Southgate and co. are set to face off with the Republic of Ireland in a friendly clash on the 12th of November.

The Three Lions are then faced with their final two Nations League group games of the year.

After losing to Denmark in the last international break, England have slipped down to 3rd in their group.

As a result, if they wish to stand any chance of qualifying, they need to beat both table-topping Belgium and Iceland this month.

Foden & Greenwood back in England fold

Ahead of the latest break, updates on a pair of England stars has been forthcoming on Monday the 2nd of November.

Two players who would not play any role in the loss to Denmark, or indeed any of the last break, were Phil Foden and Mason Greenwood.

The youngsters had been exiled from the England squad by Gareth Southgate after breaking Covid-19 protocols whilst in Iceland with the national team back in September.

However, with yet another break on the horizon, it appears the pair have been let off the naughty step by Southgate.

The Athletic reported on Monday that Foden and Greenwood are back in contention for England following their exclusion due to disciplinary reasons.

But though they are seemingly no longer being punished, will the pair actually earn a call-up?

Foden has been in fine form for Manchester City in both the Champions League and Premier League, adding a cutting edge to City’s attack when needed.

Greenwood, on the other hand, hasn’t been overly impressive of late and with the likes of Danny Ings, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and even Patrick Bamford in better form, perhaps the Manchester United star will miss out once again this month.
