Man United vs Newcastle
Manchester United will face off with Newcastle United in a Premier League clash on Sunday.
The Red Devils will no doubt head into the game full of confidence after putting four past Real Sociedad on Thursday.
United’s league form, though, is slightly less positive, having notched just one win in their last five league outings.
Such form has seen Manchester City open up a 10-point gap atop of the Premier League table, meaning the Red Devils can’t afford to drop any points if they wish to stand any chance of continuing their faltering title challenge.
As for Newcastle, their form has been fairly patch of late, winning two and losing three of their last five.
The Magpies are also still firmly in the relegation scrap, sitting just six points above Fulham at present.
Man United team news
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would hold his pre-Newcastle press conference on Friday afternoon.
During the presser, the Norwegian provided updates on several players.
Firstly, Solskjaer expressed his hope that at least one of Edinson Cavani or Donny van de Beek – both of whom missed the win over Sociedad in midweek – will be fit to face Newcastle:
“We think, or hope, both of them [Donny and Edinson will be fit] but we’re not sure. Maybe one, maybe two, maybe none. It’s one of those tight ones where you’ve got to make a call, probably after training on Saturday.”
Solskjaer also spoke briefly about Scott McTominay, who limped out of Thursday’s game, but was unable to offer much when it came to the Scott, stating he is unsure how he is:
“Of course, Paul is out and Phil is out. I don’t know how Scott is. I don’t know how Donny and Edinson will be either. They’ve got a chance, I think, so we’ve just got to give them until before training on Saturday as we need to pick a team on Saturday. We’ll see how they are and hopefully they can both be available.”
