Man United’s Marcus Rashford concedes he struggled to play his best football under Jose Mourinho

Jose Mourinho & Man United

Jose Mourinho was of course the manager of Manchester United between the summer of 2016 and December of 2018.

Despite a fairly poor end to his United stint, Mourinho, at present, remains their most successful manager in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.

His points total of 81 in the 2017/18 campaign remains United’s highest points total since Ferguson, with Solskjaer’s side needing to win their remaining four games this campaign to beat it.

He has also won two of the Manchester outfit’s three trophies since 2013, with Louis van Gaal winning the remaining one.

The Portuguese, though, as is the case at every club he goes to, left under something of a cloud.

Rashford on Jose Mourinho

And, much like at Tottenham, the fans seemingly grew frustrated with Mourinho’s rather stale/pragmatic style, which, whilst it can result in some extremely solid defences, often limits attackers.

Now, Marcus Rashford, who of course featured for Mourinho at United, has been discussing the soon-to-be Roma boss.

And the England international would indeed suggest that it was quite hard to play his best football under Mourinho.

When speaking to BT Sport recently, the forward stated:

“I think that’s when we play our best football (when we can be flexible).

“Under Jose I would say everything was a bit (points) ‘you play there, you play there, you play there’.

“And yeah, you can do a job, but it was difficult for me to play my best football.”
