Man United facing potential striker crisis vs Real Sociedad with Cavani not travelling & Martial a doubt

Real Sociedad vs Man United

Manchester United will get their European campaign back underway on Thursday.

After something of a collapse in the Champions League group stages, the Red Devils have been dropped into the Europa League for the rest of the campaign.

And though it is evidently a less glamorous accolade, the Europa League nevertheless represents a great chance for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to clinch his first piece of silverware as United manager.

The Premier League giants’ opening opponents in the competition, meanwhile, are La Liga outfit Real Sociedad, whom they will first face off with on Thursday.

Owing to the pandemic, United are set to take on the Spaniards at the Juventus Stadium in Turin.

Man United’s centre-forwards doubtful

Ahead of their trip to Italy, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer held his pre-Sociedad press conference on Wednesday.

During the presser, the Norwegian would provide updates on several Manchester United stars.

Paul Pogba, who was already out injured, is not set to play again in February.

Elsewhere, Anthony Martial and Scott McTominay are doubts to face Sociedad whilst both Edinson Cavani and Donny van de Beek are not travelling:

Cavani and Marital are of course United’s main strikers this season, so losing them both ahead of Thursday would be a big blow.

Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood can deputise there, but that would then weaken United’s attack threat from the wings.

In other news relating to Thursday’s game, Real Sociedad’s Aleksander Isak has also been previewing the match and discussing the impact David Silva had had on the club:
