Liverpool team news: Salah can train with squad & Keita suffers injury

Liverpool hammer Leicester

Sunday’s marquee Premier League tie saw Liverpool play host to Leicester City.

Both outfits have been in fine form this season and were no doubt eager to gain ground on 1st-place Tottenham.

Pre-match, there was some concern that Liverpool – without all of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jordan Henderson and Thiago – would struggle to cope with a Leicester City side who are normally very impressive away from home.

However, when all was said and done at Anfield, Liverpool won and won convincingly.

A Jonny Evans own goal, Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino ensured Jurgen Klopp’s side emerged with a resounding 3-0 victory, which moved them level on points with Spurs and set a new home record for the club.

Keita & Salah latest

The only damper on an otherwise positive evening for Liverpool was that Naby Keita, who had impressed vs Leicester, had to be withdrawn shortly into the second half.

And unfortunately for Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp has since confirmed that the African picked up a hamstring injury:

“It was the perfect night until Naby left the pitch.

“He felt his hamstring and was not able to play on otherwise he would have stayed on the pitch.”

Elsewhere though, the German also stated that Mo Salah, who tested positive for Covid-19 during the international break, is expected to re-join Liverpool training ahead of the club’s meeting with Atlanta on Wednesday:
