The latest word stemming from Naby Keita’s home country of Guinea suggests that the Liverpool midfielder has returned a positive Covid-19 test.
Guinea hit hard
Keita is one of a host of Reds stars to have been called up for international duty this week.
This comes with Guinea returning to action with a pair of fixtures over the course of the international break.
The Syli Nationale took to the pitch for the first time on Saturday, in a friendly meeting with Cape Verde.
And it was Didier Six’s men who eventually emerged victorious, putting Cape Verde to the sword by 2 goals to 1.
An otherwise positive day’s work for Guinea, however, has since been soured by some majorly concerning news.
The aforementioned Keita was one of five members of Six’s squad (alongside Francois Kamano, Ibrahima Kone, Ibrahima Camara and Florentin Pogba) to have played no part in the country’s win on Saturday.
And an explanation for their respective absences has since been forthcoming.
As per Foot224, a source regarded as highly reliable for Guinean football news, the 6 players named above were left out versus Cape Verde after testing positive for Covid-19.

Reds continue to suffer
This news will no doubt come as a blow for Liverpool, who have already been forced to deal with 4 of the club’s stars returning positive Covid tests.
Recent weeks have seen all of Kostas Tsimikas, Thiago, Sadio Mane and Xherdan Shaqiri also forced into self-isolation.
And their respective absences, along with that of the sidelined Alisson, were certainly felt in Liverpool’s last outing, when Jurgen Klopp’s men were subjected to a shock 7-2 drubbing at the hands of Aston Villa.
