Leicester ‘weighing up’ move for Brentford forward Ivan Toney

Toney’s impressive Brentford stint

After Ollie Watkins departed for Aston Villa during the delayed summer transfer window, Brentford required fresh legs to replace a man who netted 25 goals in 46 Championship outings last season.

The player the Bees settled on was Ivan Toney, whom they signed from League One outfit Peterborough.

Toney had netted 26 times in League One across the previous campaign, an impressive return.

But few were likely expecting the 24-year-old to prove quite as prolific as he has since been in the Championship.

Across 30 appearances in the English 2nd-tier, Toney has already found the net on 24 occasions, as well as providing nine assists.

Such fine form has seen Brentford move into the automatic-promotion spots.

It has also, unsurprisingly, appeared to have attracted some interest from the Premier League.

West Ham were linked with the hitman, whose contract runs until 2025, earlier this year.

Now, though, another PL outfit look to have joined the hunt for Toney.

As per a report from the Mirror on Sunday, Leicester are weighing up a move for the prolific forward.

The Foxes are said to be looking at Toney to help provide some back-up to Jamie Vardy.

However, it is also added that Toney is seen as a potential long-term replacement for the 34-year-old.

Vardy’s current contract runs until the summer of 2023.

In terms of a potential fee for Toney, one is not mentioned in the article, but you would imagine a sizable sum would be needed given just how impressive Toney has been this campaign.
