Atletico Madrid 6-1 Granada
This game was always going to be about Luis Suarez. However, the Uruguayan had to make do with a spot on the bench. Simeone’s team however were much too strong for a Granada side that had a very good 2019/20 campaign.
Diego Costa’s header put the Rojiblancos ahead before Saul Niguez missed a penalty – Rui Silva saved exceptionally. However, this would only delay the onslaught.
Angel Correa and Joao Felix both hit fantastic shots into the bottom left before the introduction of Suarez. It took a minute for the new signing to make an impact, setting up Marcos Llorente to, again, slam home a shot to the bottom left-hand corner.
Llorente then returned the favour, crossing for Suarez to head a looping ball over Rui Silva to make it 5-1. Granada scored a consolation through Molina before Suarez cemented the decision of Simeone to snap up one of La Liga’s finest with a 6th Atleti goal in the 93rd minute.
What a start to the season for Atletico Madrid who look ready to challenge the big two.

Barcelona 4-0 Villarreal
Ronald Koeman’s first league game for Barcelona came against Unai Emery’s Villarreal.
It would be an impressive debut for the new coach. Ansu Fati scored twice in the first half being set up by Jordi Alba and a returning Philippe Coutinho.
Fati was then brought down in the area to set up Lionel Messi for his first goal of the season. The Argentine sent his spot kick just underneath Sergio Asenjo and celebrated after a turbulent summer of rumours regarding his future.
A first half which contained all the game’s goals was completed when a Messi cross was turned into the net by the inexperienced Pau Torres.
Emery being dealt his first league loss of the season with Koeman and Barcelona off to the perfect start.

Fortunate at the end but Los Nervionenses will not care one bit.

Osasuna 1-3 Levante
Levante would need to stage a solid comeback in Pamplona to upstage a spirited Osasuna performance.
The home side took the lead towards the end of the first half, Roberto Torres’ left-footed shot found the bottom-left corner.
However, Los Rojillos could not maintain their lead up until the break. Levante’s star man Jose Morales chipped in a beautiful cross for Gonzalo Melero to dink past Sergio Piron.
Then, Roger Martin had a penalty saved after a handball in the box. But the substitute would avenge his miss 5 minute later slotting home to make it 2-1.
Morales would kill the game off in the 81st, tapping home at close range to give the Spaniard his 3rd of the season and Levante’s first 3 points.

Real Valladolid 1-1 Celta Vigo
Celta’s important unbeaten start to the league season continued at relegation tipped Real Valladolid.
The away side to the lead after a brilliant pass from Denis Suarez found main man Iago Aspas. The Spanish international rounded Valladolid keeper Roberto, had looked to have taken it too far but calmly finished from an impossible angle with his weaker right foot.
But the lead would be threatened after the break. Nacho’s impressive free-kick smashed onto the crossbar before Kike was taken out inside the box by Hugo Mallo.
Sergi Guardiola smashed home the spot kick to make it level however no further clear cut chances presented themselves as both teams shared the spoils.
