Kepa “no longer scared” at Chelsea as he discusses relationship with Lampard and his future

Wants Chelsea stay

Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizabalaga has given an interview with Spanish outlet COPE and has insisted he is “no longer scared” after admitting things have been difficult recently.

The Spanish international, who was signed for a world record fee of £71 million, enjoyed a solid start to life at Chelsea, but a number of high-profile errors saw him dropped by former manager Frank Lampard.

Speaking on the situation Kepa said:

I never thought about leaving Chelsea. This is my third season. In a very good (first) season, we won the Europa League, the team qualifies for the Champions League and I’m playing for the national team.

The second year we changed coaches. With Lampard there has been no problem. I would have not given my better version. In the end it is true that I have not played what I wanted to play. I have no problem with it”.

“Three months ago things were difficult, it has been a complicated year for a number of reasons. But I have never thought about leaving Chelsea.”

“I hope to turn things around and I rely on my family, on trustworthy people, more than anything.”

Kepa’s future was called into question further when Edouard Mendy arrived in the summer from Rennes.

He has been Chelsea’s number one since arriving, but Kepa did return to the line-up for the recent FA Cup tie with Barnsley and Monday night’s 2-0 win against Newcastle.

It remains to be seen if he will retain his place for their visit to Southampton, but with the club back in form under new manager Thomas Tuchel, pushing for the top 4, in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup and facing Atletico Madrid in the last 16 of the Champions League, there is plenty of football still to be played.
