Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has this evening provided a fitness update on his squad, ahead of the club’s fast-approaching meeting with Arsenal.
Community Shield showdown
The 2020/21 English season curtain-raiser is set to take place tomorrow evening.
Liverpool and Arsenal will go head-to-head at Wembley, in the latest edition of the Community Shield.
The former of course booked their spot in the showpiece courtesy of a historic campaign last time out, which eventually culminated in Jurgen Klopp’s men bringing to an end their 3-decade long wait for Premier League supremacy.
Arsenal, meanwhile, clinched the FA Cup title earlier this month.
On the back of a difficult term all-round, Mikel Arteta’s outfit salvaged their pursuit of European football at the last, courtesy of impressive consecutive victories over Manchester City and Chelsea.

As such, in 24 hours’ time, the Reds and Gunners will be handed the chance to add to their respective silverware cabinets once more.
And, as outlined above, ahead of his side’s trip to Wembley, Jurgen Klopp this evening provided updates on the fitness of a host of Liverpool’s stars.
First, on Virgil van Dijk, the German confirmed that his star stopper has recovered from a nasty head injury picked up in a friendly meeting with RB Salzburg earlier this week:
‘Virgil looks fine, he looks not good because he has the cut there, but apart from that it should be fine.’
‘All the boys which were not involved so far or got slight knocks in pre-season will not be available for tomorrow, but [are] getting closer, really closer, closer and closer so hopefully the majority of them can start training completely normal after the Arsenal game, but this game is now a bit too early for them. Maybe one or two [will be] involved in the squad, we have to see.’
Updates were also forthcoming on a further 6 Liverpool stars, with Trent Alexander-Arnold, who was not present on the Reds’ pre-season tour of Austria, set to be a game-time decision on Saturday:
‘That’s it pretty much. Hendo and Joel [Matip] looking really good, on a good way. Ox, early stages but good. Shaq, good. Trent, very close, we have to make a decision about tomorrow. Harry [Wilson] looks good.’
