Jurgen Klopp provides fitness updates on Liverpool trio ahead of Atalanta

Atalanta vs Liverpool

Liverpool are set to return to European action in just over 24 hours time.

Despite losing Virgil van Dijk to injury, the Reds have continued to pick up results both domestically and in the Champions League.

Liverpool’s last outing saw them beat Sheffield United 2-1 at home and in midweek, Jurgen Klopp and co. earned a 2-0 with over FC Midtjylland.

Said result means Liverpool head into this week’s action top of their Champions League group.

However, they are now set for arguably their toughest test of the season so far.

Atalanta are currently 2nd in Group D and their free-flowing, attacking football may prove too much for a Liverpool side without their star centre-back.

Liverpool team news update

Jurgen Klopp would hold his pre-Atalanta press conference on Monday afternoon.

During the presser Klopp discussed a number of topics, one of which was the fitness of several Liverpool stars.

And for the most part, it was quite positive from a Liverpool perspective.

Both Joel Matip and Naby Keita trained on Sunday, though Klopp suggested that doesn’t necessarily mean they are ready to play.

Thiago, however, did not train with Liverpool, suggesting he will miss out once again:

“Naby and Joel trained yesterday with the team, full, Thiago didn’t. So, that’s the situation.

“I have really no idea what I do with this information in the moment because yes, they trained, that’s good, it’s better than if they don’t train. But we have to see what we do with it.

“We have another day to make these decisions. A lot of players will be on the plane hopefully, and so decisions will be made late, late, late.”
