Man City welcomed Liverpool to the Etihad, for a highly-anticipated meeting between the champions of the last two seasons.

It was the visitors who held the advantage ahead of proceedings getting underway, with Jurgen Klopp’s men having entered the weekend sitting pretty atop the English top-flight.

Hosts City, on the other hand, had endured a concerning start to the Premier League campaign, which had seen them bag wins in just half of the club’s outings.

Liverpool took the lead inside the opening quarter of an hour, when, after Kyle Walker had needlessly downed Sadio Mane in the Citizens’ box, Mo Salah stepped up to slot home beyond Ederson.

Pep Guardiola’s hosts, though, were soon back on level terms.

A moment of magic on the part of Gabriel Jesus saw the Brazilian roll Trent Alexander-Arnold with a wonderful turn, before prodding past the advancing Alisson.

The two sides exchanged chances as the clash wore on, with a missed Kevin De Bruyne penalty the most clear-cut of them all.

In the end, though, neither could find an all-important winner,

And, as outlined above, such an update has now been forthcoming.
