Jurgen Klopp heaps praise on ‘exceptional’ Arteta/Confirms Gomez boost ahead of Arsenal clash

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was this evening drawn on a host of interesting topics, including the managerial talents of Mikel Arteta, ahead of his side’s upcoming meeting with Arsenal.

This weekend’s marquee Premier League fixture will take place at Anfield.

On Monday night, Liverpool are set to welcome Arsenal to Merseyside, for a highly-anticipated clash.

The two sides will of course head into proceedings on the back of fine starts to the new campaign, having picked up 6 points apiece from their opening 2 league outings.

Both also booked their respective spots in the League Cup’s 4th-round this week, courtesy of impressive victories.

It is also worth noting, though, that whilst champions Liverpool will understandably be viewed as favourites to secure all 3 points on Monday, it was Arsenal who emerged victories the last time the clubs went head-to-head.

A Community Shield meeting on the 29th of August saw the Gunners add to their trophy cabinet at the expense of Jurgen Klopp’s men, following a tense penalty shootout.

‘An exceptional football manager’

As such, ahead of his side going in search of payback in 3 days’ time, Liverpool boss Klopp this evening held his pre-Arsenal press conference with the media.

A host of interesting topics were discussed, one of which surrounded the German’s counterpart on the Gunners bench.

Mikel Arteta is widely viewed to have done a stellar job at the Emirates thus far, having turned a side devoid of confidence and completely lacking an identity under Unai Emery into a stable one with a clear purpose.

And Klopp has evidently been impressed by the Spaniard’s short stint in the hotseat, having been quick to lavish praise on Arteta earlier today:

‘He’s shown in a short period of time that he seems to be an exceptional football manager.’

‘The team he sets up now, the structure is absolutely great. You can see the balance between the defence and offence is really good. You can see a lot of things that are pretty helpful in football.’

‘They are well organised, still with creative freedom for the players. I have to say, since he’s there, he’s done a brilliant and impressive job.’

Klopp continued:

‘He’s changed, I think, the whole mood at the club. I don’t think anyone would have thought that at the end of the season they would win any competition, but he managed to do that by lifting the FA Cup and then the Community Shield.’

The Liverpool boss also took the time to provide a fitness update on his squad, as the club continue their preparations to take on Arsenal.

The news, though, proved an altogether mixed bag, with Joe Gomez inching towards a return to the pitch, whereas Joel Matip and Jordan Henderson remain on the sidelines:

‘Joe [Gomez] should be back today in training, Billy the Kid [Koumetio] is back in training, Joel [Matip] is not, Hendo [Henderson] is not yet either as this game is, for sure, too early.’
