Jose pays up
Jose Mourinho has posted on his Instagram page that he has remained a man of his word and paid up £500 to left back Sergio Reguilon.

The post on the Spurs manager’s social media page appeared to picture the pair standing by an animal leg of some description holding pieces of meat in their hands. Mourinho, in his tracksuit and jacket stood alongside the Spaniard who was not in sporting gear despite being in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium’s dressing room.
“A promise is a promise. It costed me £500 but I keep my promises @sergioregui,” read Mourinho’s post.
It is unclear as to whether the bet was football-related or not but the image appears to tell a very peculiar story.
Reguilon signed from Real Madrid in the summer and was involved in the impressive 2-0 victory over Manchester City and Mourinho’s long-term adversary Pep Guardiola.
Could the bet have been related to the match? And who would have bet against their side toppling one of England’s top clubs? Based on that assessment it would appear that would not be the case but the mystery of Mourinho’s bet with Reguilon is sure to linger until the Portuguese manager’s press conference ahead of their Europa League participation.
The 2-0 victory over Manchester City sent Tottenham to the top of the Premier League and the club remained at the summit after Leicester City’s loss to Liverpool.
The talk of titles is still premature this early on but former Spurs manager Tim Sherwood reckons the Portuguese coach has managed to ‘brainwash’ the players into believing anything is possible.
“Jose has brainwashed his players to believe they have to work to achieve something – they need to win trophies, this group of players,” said Sherwood.
“And why wouldn’t you believe in him? He’s won 20 major trophies in his career and you’re winning football matches, so then you start believing that this guy is the real deal, he knows what he’s talking about, and why can’t we win the league?”
Spurs have a tough run of fixtures which began with Manchester City to prove their credentials as title contenders. Chelsea, Arsenal, Crystal Palace, Liverpool and Leicester are up next and if they can remain at the summit after the sequence of games, who would bet against them?
