Ilkay Gundogan sure Man City can cope with Aguero’s absence vs Real Madrid

Man City vs Real Madrid

Manchester City’s domestic season came to an end of Sunday with a 5-0 drubbing of Championship-bound Norwich.

The Sky Blues now have their eyes fixed on the European stage as they gear up for their second Champions League last 16 clash with Real Madrid.

Man City will head into the tie at the Etihad with a 2-1 advantage thanks to late strikes from Gabriel Jesus and Kevin De Bruyne at the Bernabeu.

But with Real unbeaten since the restart and no doubt riding high after securing the La Liga title, they will no doubt prove a stern test for Pep Guardiola and co. especially under Zinedine Zidane, who has won the Champions League in all of his seasons as a manager so far.

Real also hold the record for most Champions Leagues wins with a staggering 13 to their name.

Gundogan on Man City missing Aguero

City, on the other hand, have never made it past the semi-final stage and under Pep, they have never progressed past the last eight.

The Manchester powerhouse will also have to take on the Champions League specialists without key attacker, Sergio Aguero, who is out with a knee injury picked up vs Burnley.

However, Ilkay Gundogan isn’t overly worried about City taking on Los Blancos without Aguero.

Speaking to Manchester City’s official website on Wednesday, the German admitted that whilst it is disappointing to be without the Argentine, he is sure the Citizens can cope without Aguero:

“It is definitely disappointing to not have Sergio available.

“We wish him a speedy recovery and to have him back as soon as possible, because he is such an important player for us.

“We have to deal with injuries, as we did in the season with Aymeric [Laporte] not being available. We have to do the same now with Sergio’s situation. I am sure we will be able to do that.

“Other players will have to step up. We have Gabby [Jesus], who is an amazing player, but we also have different players who can play as a false nine.

“I am sure we will be able to deal with it, but of course, we will miss him.”
