How Wolves’ keeper Rui Patricio dented Anthony Martial’s confidence – Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Quotes

Patricio knocks Martial

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that Manchester United forward Anthony Martial has been suffering since the international break. The 24-year-old was called up to the France squad for the match against Portugal which they won.

However, Martial failed to score despite having 5 shots on the Portuguese goal and Wolves keeper Rui Patricio was resolute in keeping his Premier League colleague off the scoresheet.

Solskjaer said, “Against Portugal he showed his qualities as a centre forward, getting into positions, then [Rui] Patricio made a few good saves and that might have affected Anthony’s confidence. Anthony last season showed he made big strides, now it’s time again to make even bigger strides, to develop more.”

Martial was a pivotal part of Solskjaer’s side which achieved Champions League qualification in the 2019/20 season. Since, Edinson Cavani has arrived and after scoring his first United goal against Everton, the Uruguayan will be vying with the Frenchman for the starting striking spot.

“He scored 23 last season, which was a big return, but every season is a challenge and you cannot rest on your laurels at Man United. There are demands on every position. We want Anthony to kick on. But his conversion rate has always been good.”
