Houssem Aoaur, heavily linked with a move to Arsenal last summer, has failed to achieve back-to-back call-ups. The French national team was announced with the 22-year-old failing to make the cut.

The French midfielder has so far two goals and an assist to his name in Ligue 1. With only the league to focus on, having failed to qualify for Europe during the previous campaign, Aouar has tried to put the summer madness behind him.
This appeared to go well when he was called-up to the French national team in October and featured in a 7-1 friendly win over Ukraine claiming two assists. However, was not involved in the two qualifying matches against Portugal and Croatia.
“Aouar ? Today there are other players with a similar profile which gives me more guarantees. He came, we saw certain things. Nabil Fekir gives more guarantees,” said Deschamps.
Dayot Upamecano was also omitted after a string of poor performances for RB Leipzig. Chelsea’s Kurt Zouma, Real Betis’ Fekir and Borussia Monchengladbach’s Marcus Thuram have come in.
Borussia Monchengladbach star Marcus Thuram has received his first call-up to the French national team. His father, Lilian, is a France legend having won the World Cup with the squad in 1998. He moved from Monaco to Parma, followed by Juventus and Barcelona.
The call-up will come as a huge boost to the wide man. Contrary to his father, Marcus plays in a more advanced wide position and has helped Gladbach in their impressive start to their Champions League group containing Inter Milan and Real Madrid.

The now French international scored both goals as the German side went 2-0 up against Los Blancos. Were it not for a spirited late come back, Gladbach’s hopes of qualification for the knock-out stages would be very optimistic.
France take on Finland, Portugal and Sweden in during the break with Thuram expectantly eager to gain minutes.
