Hazard and Casemiro text positive for COVID-19

Hazard tests positive

Real Madrid have announced that both Eden Hazard and Casemiro have tested positive for COVID-19. Real Madrid have the opportunity to return to the top of the table in their match against struggling Valencia.

Eden Hazard returned for Real in La Liga with a bang against Huesca. Los Blancos won the game 4-1 with the Belgian scoring a left-footed screamer having missed the first 6 league matches through a muscle injury.

Hazard also played the end of the match against Borussia Monchengladbach in which Real came back from 2-0 down to snatch a point. Hazard then played 64 minutes in Madrid’s 3-2 victory over Inter Milan.

Hazard had been called up by Roberto Martinez for the matches against Switzerland, England and Denmark but will now miss these as the 29-year-old enters a period of self-isolation.

It is likely that Vinicius Junior will come in for the now absent Hazard for the weekend’s fixture. All other players tested negative.

Zidane on Ramos

Hazard will miss the upcoming game. However, the return of Sergio Ramos from a brief injury issue has galvanised the Spanish capital club. Zinedine Zidane spoke after the victory in Milan about how he views the club captain.

“As always, he is our captain, our leader,” Zidane said.

“We want him here forever, it is what he is doing, showing that he always wants to. I have no doubt that he will stay and that it will continue to make history.”

Ramos scored his 100th goal for Real Madrid against Inter however was not hubristic about the achievement.

“Individual records are secondary, but you like hitting them and as long as they keep on helping the side win, hopefully I can get a few more.”

“We knew it was a do-or-die game and when you are pegged back to a draw in a match you were winning, you need to push on. We’d let them off the hook a bit and in the Champions League you can’t afford to do that,” said Ramos speaking after the UCL win.

Real Madrid’s final league game before the international break against Valencia is at 8:00pm on Sunday.
