Haaland suggests he could leave Dortmund if they fail to make top 4

Mbappe provided motivation

Erling Haaland scored twice in Borussia Dortmund’s 3-2 victory over Sevilla in Spain last night as they took a solid lead and three away goals. Whilst their domestic season has not been going too fruitfully, their forays in the Champions League look to outshine this and become a good distraction from the league.

“When I saw Mbappe score the hat trick, I got free motivation, so thanks to him,” Haaland said. “He scored some nice goals and I got a free boost from him, so it was nice.”

Haaland spoke about interim coach Edin Terzic who has taken charge of the team until the end of the season when Borussia Monchengladbach coach Marco Rose will be appointed.

“We had a good plan,” he said. “Edin has been good and I’ve been talking a lot with him. He said today would be my game and that I would get my chances and I did, so it was an important win.”

Sevilla’s late second will give Julen Lopetegui’s team some hope as they travel for the next fixture.

Haaland’s non-negotiable for Dortmund stay

Speaking ahead of the match against the Spanish club, Haaland dropped a hint that should Borussia Dortmund fail to qualify for the Champions League next season he could look to move on in the summer. Dortmund are 6th in the Bundesliga, 6 points behind 4th placed Wolfsburg at present.

“It is without question a decisive factor that Dortmund ends up in the top 4. It is something we have to do, it is as simple as that,” he said.

“Champions League is the most important tournament. It’s special to me to play in the Champions League, and I’m lucky to get to play there. And it’s something I expect from myself to play every season for the rest of my career. The Champions League is pretty special to me.”

“All I’m saying is that we have to qualify for the Champions League.”

A number of clubs including Chelsea and Real Madrid have been linked with a move for Haaland and will want to pursue this further should Dortmund slip out of Europe’s elite competition.
