Frank Lampard provides Hakim Ziyech injury update

Frank Lampard has moved to provide an injury update on one of Chelsea’s latest signings, Hakim Ziyech.

Chelsea vs Brighton

The Blues would confirm the signing of Ziyech back in February with the former Ajax man eventually joining up with his new teammates on July 1st.

And after spending a couple of months getting to know his new side, the African finally lined out in Chelsea colours for the first time over the weekend.

Chelsea would take on fellow Premier League outfit Brighton in their first pre-season game of the summer.

Whilst Chelsea were not at full strength with the likes of Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount and Christian Pulisic absent, Frank Lampard was still able to call upon new boys Timo Werner and Ziyech vs the Seagulls.

Said duo would play a big part in Chelsea’s only goal of the day as Ziyech whipped a lovely ball to Callum Hudson-Odoi whose header was then met by Werner, with the German having no issues finding the back of the net.

Lampard on Ziyech

Chelsea eventually drew the tie 1-1, though results and this stage of the campaign mean very little with Lampard no doubt pleased to see some of his new additions fitting in well.

One slight negative for Chelsea on Saturday, however, was the fact Ziyech looked to pick up a knock during the tie.

Now, as mentioned above, Lampard has moved to provide an update on the midfield maestro.

After praising Werner and Ziyech, Lampard went on to confirm the latter has a knock on his knee which will need to be assessed:

“I thought his [Werner’s] work rate and everything about him was a great little start for him and Hakim Ziyech the same, some of his contributions and passing and quality levels were great. He has a bit of a knock on his knee, a little bit of a small twist which we will have to assess, hopefully it is not too bad, but in the performances they were both really good.”
