Everton reportedly pursuing Atletico Madrid right-back Santiago Arias

Everton have, on Tuesday, been linked with a move for Atletico Madrid right-back, Santiago Arias.

Arias’ Atletico stint

Arias, 28, joined Atletico in the summer of 2018 from Dutch outfit, PSV.

The Spaniards are believed to have paid just shy of £10m for the Colombian’s services.

Since moving to the Wanda Metropolitano, though, Arias has never really been able to cement himself as an essential member of Diego Simeone’s backline.

Arias would notch 33 outings across all competitions during his debut season in Madrid.

But this past term, Arias has very much played second fiddle to former Tottenham man, Kieran Trippier.

Arias would garner just 18 outings throughout 2019/20, only 14 of which came during Atletico’s La Liga campaign.

Everton eyeing Arias

And though Arias has just under three years left on his current contract, his lack of minutes would suggest Atletico would be open to parting ways with the full-back if the right offer came in.

One club believed to be showing an interest, as mentioned above, is Everton.

The Toffees recently saw Djibril Sidibe return to Monaco after his loan spell on Merseyside, with their farewell message seeming to hint the Frenchman will not be back at Everton anytime soon.

As a result, Everton could probably do with some fresh legs at right-back this summer. And as per Dominic King of the Daily Mail:

Everton are pursuing Santiago Arias, Atletico Madrid’s right-back. The two clubs are discussing a fee for the 28-year-old Colombia international.

Whilst no specific fee is mentioned by King, given Arias is 28 and not a regular starter, you would imagine Everton will not have to break the bank to land him.

Right-back is not the only spot which Ancelotti and co. are said to be eyeing fresh legs in though, with a number of midfielders recently tipped to make the move to Goodison Park.
