Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that Mason Holgate picked up an injury during Everton’s pre-season meeting with Preston earlier today.

The Toffees welcomed Championship outfit Preston to Goodison Park a short time ago, for their latest friendly outing.
The matchup marked Everton’s final one ahead of the new Premier League season getting underway next weekend.
And, on the back of a shaky 3-3 stalemate with Blackpool last time out, the Merseysiders got things back on track courtesy of a 2-0 victory this afternoon.
Everton took the lead inside the opening 10 minutes, as Jonjoe Kenny, who has linked up with Carlo Ancelotti’s squad following an impressive spell in Germany last season, slotted underneath the advancing Connor Ripley:

And the hosts went on to kill the game off 25 minutes from time, when Dominic Calvert-Lewin directed home the lively Richarlison’s delivery from the left:

Holgate concern
As such, Everton got a morale-boosting win on the board, ahead of getting the club’s league campaign underway with a trip to Tottenham a week from tomorrow.
As outlined above, however, it wasn’t all positive news for the Toffees this afternoon.
In an untimely blow, Mason Holgate suffered a fitness issue, with subsequent reports having suggested that the stopper left Goodison Park on crutches.
Carlo Ancelotti has since confirmed that Holgate picked up a toe injury, with tests to ascertain the extent of the damage set to take place tomorrow:
