Everton dealt major blow with Lucas Digne set for ankle surgery

Word stemming from the French media on Thursday has revealed that Everton are set to be without first-choice left-back Lucas Digne for several months, after the stopper picked up an injury in training.

Up-and-down Toffees

Carlo Ancelotti’s men have of course endured a somewhat bizarre opening to the campaign.

The Toffees managed wins in their first 4 Premier League outings, setting the early pace and surging to the summit of the English top-flight in the process.

The weeks that followed, however, saw Everton remarkably pick up just a solitary point from their ensuing 4 fixtures.

This run included concerning defeats versus the likes of Newcastle and Manchester United.

As such, it no doubt came as a major source of relief for not only Carlo Ancelotti, but the club’s fans, when Everton got back to winning ways, albeit just, at Fulham last weekend.

Grabbing the headlines at Craven Cottage was of course Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who continued his scintillating early-season form in front of goal with a brace.

Also central for the Merseysiders in the capital, though, was Lucas Digne. The French stopper bagged the assists for his side’s 2nd and 3rd goals, amid another superb all-round display.

Blues blow

As outlined above, however, if the latest media speculation in France today is to be believed, then Everton look set to be without their star left-back for the considerable future.

This comes amid claims that Digne has picked up a rather serious ankle injury.

Citing ‘English sources close to the player’, France Football reveal that the former Barcelona man suffered a heavy blow during a recent training session.

In turn, it is claimed that Digne will be forced to undergo surgery over the coming days, in a bid to solve the issue.

The timeline cited for recovery, meanwhile, is around two months.
