Arsenal midfielder Dani Ceballos has opened up on the reasoning behind his decision to make the move back to the club this summer.
Spanish international Ceballos of course spent the 2019/20 campaign on loan in north London.
And, after a somewhat hit-and-miss start to life in the Premier League, the final months of the season saw the 24-year-old go on to establish himself as one of the Gunners’ star performers.
The arrival of Mikel Arteta proved key in Ceballos getting things back on track, with the midfielder having evidently responded positively to the teachings of his fellow countryman.
Under Arteta’s guidance, the Real Madrid loanee added a further element of bite and aggression to his game, a crucial element in Arsenal’s run to FA Cup glory in August.
All told, across his year-long stint at the Emirates, Ceballos notched 37 appearances.
As such, on the back of his stellar production over the season’s run-in, there were unsurprisingly widespread calls amongst Arsenal’s fanbase for Ceballos to return for the 2020/21 campaign.
And it did not take long for the board at the Emirates to answer such pleas, with a fresh deal for the midfielder having been struck early last month.
Ceballos returned to the Emirates on another season-long loan, with the Spaniard having since slotted straight back into Mikel Arteta’s midfield.

‘For the best’
And, as outlined above, Ceballos himself has this weekend opened up on his decision to link back up with the Gunners, rather than stay put to battle it out for a starting berth at the Bernabeu.
The 24-year-old is currently away on international duty, and was drawn on the subject of his situation at club level during a press conference on Friday.
Ceballos, in turn, went on to confirm that his return to Arsenal came based on a desire to secure consistent first-team football, to develop further as a player.
He also appeared to hint, though, that this season will come as his last in north London:
‘You know that to take part you have to play for your team. When a player is happy in his team that is for the best and that is why I decided to stay for one more year at Arsenal where I could develop my game as normal.’
‘After confinement we have seen a Dani Ceballos that we all wanted. I have improved a lot and I am very happy to continue at Arsenal.’
