Covid-19 behind Alex Telles’ absence for Man United vs Leipzig

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has provided an explanation for Alex Telles’ surprise absence from his squad to take on RB Leipzig on Wednesday.

Reds run riot

United welcomed the Bundesliga table-toppers to Old Trafford a little less than 24 hours ago.

Solskjaer’s men headed into proceedings with confidence high, having looked much-improved since the international break.

The Manchester giants’ European opener last week, meanwhile, saw them emerge from Paris with a fully deserved victory over Paris Saint-Germain.

And, when all was said and done last night, United’s resurgence continued.

A dominant display on the part of the hosts eventually saw Leipzig downed by 5 goals to nil.

Mason Greenwood opened the game’s scoring with 20 minutes on the clock, finding the back of the visitors’ net with his first-ever effort in the Champions League.

A tense 50 minutes followed, during which Leipzig actually enjoyed the majority of the possession.

A late flurry on the part of United, though, saw Marcus Rashford steal the show, emerging from the bench to net a superb hat-trick.

Anthony Martial was also on target from the penalty spot.

Covid strikes again

An otherwise thoroughly positive night’s work for United on Wednesday, though, has since been soured ever so slightly by some concerning news on the personnel front.

The update surrounds Alex Telles, who, after impressing in his Champions League bow for the Red Devils vs PSG, was a surprise absence from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad to take on Leipzig.

The United boss, though, has since confirmed that his side’s summer addition has tested positive for Covid-19.

Telles was ruled out of last night’s proceedings as a result, and now looks a major doubt to feature in the Reds’ Premier League showdown with Arsenal this weekend:
