Conor McGregor doubles down on Man United interest/Reveals Celtic efforts

 

UFC superstar Conor McGregor has reiterated his interest in purchasing a major stake in a football club, with Celtic and Manchester United amongst the sides ‘liked’ by the Irishman.

Chatter surrounding McGregor’s eagerness to expand his empire into the world of football was first forthcoming last month.

This came with the 32-year-old having taken advantage of the chaos brought about by plans for the heavily criticised European Super League.

Manchester United were of course one of six Premier League clubs to have revealed their status as a founding member of the ESL project.

This led to a swift and intense backlash on the part of the Red Devils faithful, who, upon the proposal’s collapse, called for club owners the Glazers to sell up, and move on.

Amid suggestions that the American business group were considering doing exactly that, meanwhile, McGregor took to social media, to lightheartedly put his name forward as a potential buyer:

‘Could do big things…’

As outlined above, though, if the latest comments on the part of the MMA icon are anything to go by, then McGregor’s message appears to have been intended as a little more serious than most initially thought.

Returning to Twitter early this morning, the Dublin native was drawn on his interest in Manchester United during a Q&A session.

And McGregor, in response, went on to confirm his genuine interest in the Red Devils, whilst also revealing negotiations with Dermot Desmond – principal shareholder of Scottish giants Celtic – to purchase a stake in the club:

‘A conversation came up regarding Celtic first to be honest. To acquire shares from Dermot Desmond.’

‘I am certainly interested in acquiring a sports team at some stage! Both Celtic and Man United are teams I like for sure.’

‘But I am open. I feel I could do big things for a club.’
